Helpful Hints
- BE SURE TO BRING YOUR MSU STUDENT ID.
- Arrive at the Humphrey Coliseum between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday,August 8.
- Stick to the basics for your first day of moving. You will probably want to spend some time in your room deciding how to arrange the furniture and what other pieces you may want to bring. You might find that you don’t need that futon after all.
- Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Mississippi in August is hot!
- Pack belongings in boxes and easy-to-carry plastic containers. Clothes on hangers are difficult to carry up stairs.
- Bring wheeled luggage carriers or a lightweight hand truck.
- Leave the car turned on and, the driver behind the wheel at all times while in the unloading zone. The driver will then take the car to the long-term parking lot once the car has been unloaded. This job is great for a sibling or a friend who wants to help but can't carry boxes easily.
- Make certain that you have your residence hall room number with you when you enter the unloading zone. The volunteers will label your boxes with your room number, so it is critical that you know where your room is located. Also, make certain that you specify the A-or-B wing if you are in the Zacharias Village. There is two of every room number in the Zacharias Village buildings, so volunteers need to know which side of the building is yours.
- Choose a plan of attack - the "Quick and Go" or the "Slow and Easy."
Quick and Go
If you want to make moving in as quick as possible, after you have checked in at the Humphrey Coliseum, then have at least two people helping you. One person can move your vehicle out of the Unloading Zone after unloading all of your belongings onto the curb. You can locate your room and carry in the first items. The other person can stay with your belongings that have been unloaded onto the curb while the driver parks the car in one of the long-term parking lots.
Slow and Easy
If you want to take your time and plan your move, this strategy is the way to go. Check in at the Humphrey Coliseum. Park your vehicle in a long-term parking lot. Visit your room and plan how you want to arrange the furniture before you bring in all of your belongings.
You can then drive to the unloading zone and unload all of your belongings. There will be volunteers to help you take your bags and boxes to your room.
This plan is good if you do not want to be rushed and want to share your memories of moving on-campus with your family or friends.
