FAQs

Many answers to frequently asked questions can be found on the MSU Housing website, but we’ll include a few other common questions we may hear from time to time.

  • Once I pick a space during my timeslot, can I or should I check back later if I want to change it? No. Use caution - Assignment selections cannot be changed once submitted. Once you log on during your assigned timeslot, select the space you want and click submit. The longer students stay in the portal, the slower the portal will be for all involved. You also only need to log on through 1 device and not multiple
  • What if I’m not satisfied with the options during my timeslot? You will have the opportunity to add yourself to a Room Reassignment Waitlist immediately after selecting your room, but YOU MUST STILL CHOOSE A SPACE! Options will not improve the longer you wait, but may add yourself to a waitlist by yourself or with your confirmed roommate for up to three buildings. If you wish to move with your confirmed roommate, your roommate must also enter themselves to the same building(s) waitlist to be considered. You will be able to see where you stand in the queue for each building you’re waitlisted in throughout the summer. We encourage you to make your waitlist selection(s) while you are in the Housing Portal, after you have chosen your space. However, students have until June 30th to add themselves to a waitlist or make changes to their waitlist selections. Please keep in mind, as spaces become available we will remove students from the waitlist in the order in which they were received. Once at least one of your waitlist preferences has been met, you will be removed from all other waitlists.
  • What is the likelihood of securing a spot in New Construction? This will vary from building to building. Current students were given the opportunity to choose their spaces. Typically, these students choose a new construction hall, therefore taking up roughly ¼ of the spaces across campus before incoming first-year students choose their space.
  • Can my timeslot change? No. We encourage you to plan around your family’s work commitments, a senior trip, or other obligations that will prevent you from accessing the portal during your assigned timeslot. Once your timeslot is open, it will remain open until you select a space, your confirmed roommate chooses a space and pulls you into that space with them.
  • What if I don’t have a confirmed roommate by May 10th? No problem. You will still pick a space during your timeslot. This room may already have someone else in one bed space, and you are selecting the other open space, OR you could pick a room where neither bed space is filled, and then a fellow student who also does not have a roommate will have the opportunity to pick the open space in that room.
  • Will Honors students get a space in Griffis or Hurst Halls and are they required to live there? There is no guarantee. Griffis and Hurst Halls are 2 additional options available to Honors students, based on availability. Honors students are not required to live in honors residence halls and may choose to live elsewhere on campus.
  • What if I run into a problem during my timeslot? The MSU Housing office is open during traditional business hours, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday. We will also extend office hours from Monday, May 20 through Thursday, May 23 until 7:00 pm CDT.

We are excited to welcome our new Bulldogs to campus this fall! Again, if you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the MSU Housing office at 662-325-3555 or housing@saffairs.msstate.edu.
